SAP Stock Room Management: Compliance Check for S/4HANA Migration

Many companies currently using SAP Warehouse Management (LE-WM) are facing the challenge of transitioning their warehouse management systems to SAP S/4HANA. Since LE-WM is in a compatibility mode and will no longer be supported after 31 December 2025 (see SAP Note 2577428), it is important to assess whether the existing functions will continue to be supported in the new Stock Room Management or if a switch to SAP EWM is necessary.

Why is the Compliance Check important?

With the introduction of SAP Stock Room Management starting with SAP S/4HANA 1909, this solution replaces the previously used LE-WM. However, SAP Stock Room Management does not include all functions of LE-WM. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a compliance check to ensure that the functions used in your system are either supported by SAP Stock Room Management or that SAP EWM must be used.

Steps to perform the Compliance Check

To ensure that your system is compliant for using SAP Stock Room Management, you need to run the STOCKROOM_COMPLIANCE_CHECK. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to execute this report:

1. Implement SAP Note

Before executing the compliance check, ensure that SAP Note 2882809 has been implemented in your system. This note provides the necessary check report to assess whether the warehouses in your system are compliant with SAP Stock Room Management.

2. Start Transaction SE38 (ABAP Editor)

  1. Open transaction SE38.
  2. Enter the program STOCKROOM_COMPLIANCE_CHECK in the "Program" field.
  3. Select Execute.

3. Select Warehouse Number(s)

  • Select the warehouse(s) you want to check.
  • If you wish to check all warehouses in your system, leave the Warehouse Number field blank.

4. Define Date Range

  • Enter the date range for which you want to run the check. This ensures that all relevant data is considered.

5. Run the Report

Click Execute to start the compliance check report. The report will provide you with a detailed overview of your warehouse management's compliance with the functionality of SAP Stock Room Management.

Results of the Compliance Check Report

The compliance report provides detailed information on whether the functions you are currently using are supported in SAP Stock Room Management. These include:

  • Identified functions outside the scope: The report shows you functions used in LE-WM but no longer available in SAP Stock Room Management, such as:

    • Yard Management
    • Cross-Docking
    • Decentralized Warehouse Management
    • Value-Added Services
    • Task and Resource Management
    • Interfaces to warehouse control systems
  • Traffic Light System: The results are often displayed in a traffic light system:

    • Green Light: Your warehouse is fully compliant with SAP Stock Room Management.
    • Yellow Light: There are functions whose usage needs to be reviewed to ensure they can be used in the new environment.
    • Red Light: These functions are no longer supported in SAP Stock Room Management and must either be migrated or replaced with alternative solutions.

Which functions are no longer supported?

Some of the functions available in LE-WM are not included in SAP Stock Room Management. These include:

  1. Yard Management: The management of yard spaces and vehicles is not supported.
  2. Cross-Docking: Cross-docking, where goods are transferred directly from the inbound to the outbound area without being stored, is no longer available.
  3. Decentralized Warehouse Management: Functions integrated into the decentralized version of LE-WM are no longer available.
  4. Value-Added Services: Services such as labelling or assembly are no longer supported.
  5. Task and Resource Management: The management of tasks and resources within the warehouse is no longer available.
  6. Warehouse Control System Interfaces (WCU): This type of interface is no longer supported.

Next steps in case of incompatibilities

If functions are identified that are no longer supported in SAP Stock Room Management, there are several possible next steps:

  • Migration to SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM): Companies requiring advanced warehouse functions can migrate to SAP EWM, which is integrated into SAP S/4HANA and supports many of the advanced functions previously available in LE-WM.
  • Customizing and Adjustments: If certain functions cannot be migrated, custom adjustments must be made or alternative processes implemented.

Conclusion: Why the Compliance Check is essential

The compliance check for SAP Stock Room Management is an essential step for all companies that need to replace LE-WM in SAP S/4HANA. By running the STOCKROOM_COMPLIANCE_CHECK, you will get a clear overview of the functions you can continue to use and those no longer supported. This ensures a smooth transition to SAP S/4HANA and helps avoid potential system disruptions after 31 December 2025.
