SAP WM End of Support - when is the correct date for you?

SAP has officially announced the gradual discontinuation of support for the Warehouse Management (WM) module. This decision affects many companies currently relying on SAP WM and raises an important question: When exactly does support for your specific installation end? In this article, we explain the various end dates that apply to SAP WM and the conditions under which they apply. Additionally, we explain how to check the current version of your SAP WM installation and why an early review and potential transition is advisable.

1. End of Support for SAP WM

SAP has set several dates that determine the end of support for SAP WM:

End of regular support on December 31, 2025:

For all SAP WM installations running in compatibility mode in SAP S/4HANA, support will end on December 31, 2025. This mode allows companies to integrate their previous SAP WM solutions into S/4HANA. After this date, SAP will no longer provide updates or support. Companies must migrate to SAP EWM or SRM (Stock Room Management) by 2025.

Extended support until December 31, 2027:

The extended support applies only to SAP ERP 6.0 with the latest Enhancement Packages (EHP6, EHP7, EHP8). This does not apply to SAP WM in S/4HANA; support will end completely after 2025. Companies that continue to use SAP WM must then switch to another solution. A Big Bang approach, where both ECC is migrated to S/4HANA and WM is switched to an alternative, could be an option. Alternatively, complexity in WM can be reduced first, followed by migration to SAP EWM in a second step for a smoother transition.

Special support until December 31, 2030:

Some functionalities, such as LE-TRA, CS, and PP-PI, can continue to be supported until 2030 in exceptional cases, but only for critical business processes. However, this extension is only applicable in certain scenarios and requires specific agreements. The special support does not apply to SAP WM, SRM, or EWM.

2. How to Identify the SAP WM Features You Are Using

To plan the appropriate measures for your SAP WM installation, it is crucial to know the currently used features and understand which of them are relevant for your warehouse processes. This helps you determine the correct end-of-support dates and plan the next steps for migrating to a new solution, such as SAP EWM or SRM (Stock Room Management).

Compatibility Scope Check:

To identify the use of functions that are part of the Compatibility Scope, SAP offers the Simplification Item Check, which can be started via transaction SA38. The relevant report is called /SDF/RC_START_CHECK and analyses the key transactions, tables, and business processes of your system. This check provides an overview of which Simplification Items are actively used in your system and whether they are part of the Compatibility Scope.
Important: It is important to run the report in your production system for meaningful results. If you want to perform the check in a copy of your production system, ensure that ST03N data is available, as described in SAP Note 2568736. This ensures that all relevant data is correctly considered.

Compliance Check for SAP Stock Room Management:

This report specifically helps check if the functions currently used in SAP WM are also compatible with the new SAP Stock Room Management solution, available in SAP S/4HANA from version 1909. Companies can also run the STOCKROOM_COMPLIANCE_CHECK report via transaction SA38 to determine which adjustments are necessary to continue supporting their warehouse processes after 2025.

3. Why You Should Act Now

Early review of your SAP WM usage and planning a switch to modern solutions like SAP EWM or SRM (Stock Room Management) are crucial for several reasons:

  • Ensuring Business Continuity: After the support end dates, SAP will no longer provide security updates or patches, leading to security vulnerabilities and potential operational disruptions. A timely transition to SAP EWM or SRM (Stock Room Management) ensures that your systems remain secure and reliable.
  • Leveraging Modern Technologies: SAP EWM offers advanced features that are not available in SAP WM, such as deeper integration into the SAP S/4HANA environment, enhanced automation capabilities, and optimized warehouse functions. These technologies help improve the efficiency of your warehouse processes and reduce overall operating costs.
  • Avoiding Bottlenecks and Risks: The demand for resources and experts for migration to SAP EWM will increase as the end date approaches. Acting proactively can help you avoid bottlenecks and ensure a smooth migration.

Conclusion:

Timely planning for the transition from SAP WM to SAP EWM or SAP Stock Room Management is essential to ensure the future viability and performance of your warehouse management. As support for SAP WM is ending soon, it will be crucial to migrate to modern, powerful solutions. This is the only way companies can ensure their systems remain compatible and optimized. A well-prepared migration avoids bottlenecks and allows you to benefit from the advanced features of the new systems, staying competitive in the long term.
